Sajid: From a Commerce Student to a Civil & Structural Design Professional at L&T

Sajid, born on 11 February 1994 in Badarpur, New Delhi, represents one such journey. His professional story is a powerful example of how determination, vocational education and continuous learning can transform a career.

Today, Sajid works as a Sr. Designer – Civil & Structural (CSA) with Larsen & Toubro (L&T), contributing to engineering and design work in the onshore sector. But his journey towards this position did not begin with an engineering degree or a conventional technical background.

It began with Commerce.

From Commerce to the World of Engineering

After completing Class 12 with a Commerce background, Sajid chose a path that would eventually take him into the technical world.

He joined ITI AKS Nizamuddin and pursued a Draughtsman Civil course. For him, vocational education became more than just a qualification—it became the first step toward discovering a completely new professional direction.

Moving from Commerce into Civil & Structural engineering required him to learn technical concepts, drawings, drafting and industry-oriented skills.

It was not simply a change of course.

It was a change of direction in life.

Instead of allowing his initial academic background to limit his possibilities, Sajid chose to learn something new and build his career step by step.

The ITI Route That Changed His Career

His training as a Draughtsman Civil gave him an entry point into the engineering environment. But he did not stop there.

With the desire to strengthen his technical knowledge, he subsequently pursued a Diploma in Civil Engineering from G.B. Pant Institute of Technology, Okhla, Delhi.

This combination of vocational training, formal technical education and practical exposure gradually helped him move deeper into the Civil & Structural Engineering field.

His story demonstrates an important lesson for young Indians:

Education does not always have to follow one predetermined route. Sometimes, the right skill at the right time can completely change the direction of a career.

Sajid's professional development has been shaped not only by education but also by practical industry exposure.

His experience includes professional association with L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering Limited, along with experience and training associated with Engineers India Limited (EIL).

Over time, he developed expertise in areas including:

These skills have helped him progress from his initial vocational training to his current role as a Senior Designer – Civil & Structural.
