Manish Patgiri: Where Quality Meets Purpose in Healthcare

There is a department in every hospital that rarely makes headlines. It does not perform surgeries. It does not diagnose. It does not dispense medication. And yet, without it, everything else slowly begins to fall apart.

That department is Quality. And for the past 11 years, it has been the professional home of Manish Patgiri.

Born and raised in the northeastern part of India, Manish began his healthcare journey in hospital operations — learning the rhythms of a busy facility from the inside. But it was when he moved into quality management that something clicked. He found not just a role, but a calling.

A Career Built on Standards

Over more than a decade, Manish has worked across some of India's most respected healthcare institutions — Fortis Healthcare, Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Dream Healthcare Services, Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital, and Sparsh Hospital. Each posting added a layer — a new challenge, a new system, a new lesson in what it truly means to deliver safe and consistent care.

Today, he serves as Manager – Quality and Accreditation at Rainbow Children's Hospital in Bengaluru, where his work touches every corner of the organization.

What Quality Really Means

Ask Manish what his department does, and he will not give you the textbook answer. He will tell you about the medication error that never happened because a protocol was reviewed in time. The infection that did not spread because a checklist was followed. The insurance claim that went through cleanly because documentation was accurate.

"Quality is not about passing an audit," he says. "It is about making sure that the person who walks into this hospital walks out better than they came in."

His work spans clinical audits, root cause analyses, incident management, staff training, and the rigorous process of maintaining accreditation standards under frameworks like NABH and JCI. These are not glamorous tasks. But they are essential ones.

The Revenue Nobody Talks About

One of the conversations Manish finds himself having repeatedly is about the financial value of quality — because it is rarely understood until something goes wrong.

A preventable readmission. A rejected insurance claim. A legal notice following a medication error. Each of these carries a cost that dwarfs the investment of running a strong quality program.

But quality also builds revenue in ways that are harder to see — patient trust that drives referrals, accreditations that unlock corporate empanelments, documentation standards that protect billing accuracy, and process efficiencies that increase patient capacity without increasing overhead.

"The Quality Department does not generate revenue directly," Manish explains. "But it protects every rupee the hospital earns — and creates the conditions for earning more."

From Assam to Bengaluru

There is something quietly remarkable about Manish's journey — from a young professional in the Northeast to a quality leader in one of India's most dynamic healthcare cities. He carries with him a work ethic shaped by where he comes from, and a vision sharpened by everywhere he has been.

He believes that quality is not a department's job alone — it is a culture. And culture, he will tell you, begins with one person deciding to hold the standard even when no one is watching.

That is the kind of professional Manish Patgiri is.
